One step in God's process to transform you

Peter speaks of participating in God’s divine nature, a transformation that makes you more like Christ. He gives a list of items you should add to your faith, and then, in 2 Peter 1:4, He says, “Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

Those who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior go to heaven when they die, but that’s not God’s main focus. God wants to transform you into the image and likeness of Christ. Death is temporary and won’t always be a thing.

The ultimate goal is to fully become like Jesus and to have your spirit, mind, and body completely redeemed (Romans 8:19-23). This means you will be fully like Jesus and will be completely free from all things that hold you back. The way you get there is simple. You come into His presence by seeking Him, thanking Him, and praising Him. All who seek Him find Him. He leads, teaches, and corrects all who follow Him. In His presence, you hear His voice. He shows you who you are in Him. The moment you were born again by believing in Jesus, you were changed. Your spirit was set free to serve God. God transformed your spirit from death to life. Your soul (mind) was changed a little bit too. They took on the nature of Jesus Christ, but you were split into two people in your mind. Right next to the holy, perfect Jesus Christ in you, you have a rebellious carnal nature. You are dead to that carnal nature. You are alive to Christ within you. God is transforming you into the image and likeness of Christ while the carnal nature slowly goes away.

Can God give us a vision of what we are now walking into? Do we see anything in Scripture? Yes, but the vision is incomplete. Scripture tells us eye has not seen nor has the ear heard about this glorious transformation. We see how Jesus appeared on the Mount of Transfiguration. We see the miracles in the Bible. The problem we have is that the glory we are walking into is many orders of magnitude beyond any of that.

Ask God to answer these questions.

  1. What does it mean to participate in God’s divine nature?
  2. How do God’s promises help you become more like Jesus?
  3. Why is “going to heaven” not God’s main focus?
  4. What does it mean that death is temporary and won’t always exist?
  5. How can seeking, thanking, and praising God bring you into His presence?

Bonus questions:

  1. What does it mean that your spirit was set free when you believed in Jesus?
  2. Why do you have two parts that fight each other: a holy part and a rebellious carnal nature?
  3. How is God slowly making the carnal nature go away?
  4. What was the Mount of Transfiguration, and why is it important?
  5. Why can’t you fully understand the glory God has planned for you?

SEEKING GOD

audio recording for reflection:

  1. Pray for the Lord to protect you and keep you in His presence and His presence only.
  2. Direct your mind toward the Lord only.
  3. Ask God what He want’s to talk about.
  4. You can ask God any questions. In all of this, be led by the Holy Spirit. God promises that He will answer you if you ask Him.
  5. Do not edit or change what God says even if you don’t understand it.
  6. Reject the lies and receive the truth.
  7. Take notes.
  8. Transfer your notes to your journal without editing what God said to you.

Keep in mind that God doesn’t want you to ever disconnect from Him. He wants to flow through you constantly in knowledge, wisdom, and love.
