Scientists who challenge or reject evolution have often been labeled with terms meant to discredit their credibility or dismiss their views. Some of these terms include:
- Creationist – Often used dismissively, implying the person rejects science in favor of a strictly literal interpretation of the Bible.
- Pseudoscientist – Suggesting their work or beliefs are not based on legitimate scientific methods.
- Anti-science – Implying that they are opposed to scientific progress or understanding.
- Fundamentalist – Painting them as rigidly tied to religious beliefs, regardless of their scientific qualifications.
- Science denier – A term used to align them with other controversial movements, such as climate change denial.
- Unqualified – Often used to attack their credibility, regardless of their actual expertise in related fields.
- Dogmatic – Suggesting they are closed-minded and driven by faith rather than reason.
- Religious zealot – Framing them as fanatical or overly emotional rather than rational.
- Flat-earther – A derogatory term lumping them in with those who hold beliefs widely considered absurd.
- Obscurantist – Accusing them of deliberately trying to obscure or block scientific progress.
These terms are often employed in debates or discussions to frame opposition as unscientific or biased, regardless of the scientific merits of their arguments.
Those who have become dogmatic and religiously zealous about these unproven and unprovable axioms are accusing those who question the axioms of the very thing they themselves are guilty. This is known as projection—a psychological term for when someone attributes their own faults, behaviors, or motivations to others. In this case, it’s accusing others of dogmatism or zealotry while exhibiting those traits themselves.
Another term that might apply is hypocrisy, which is when someone criticizes others for something they themselves are guilty of.
Next we will think about how to handle the lies.
Ask God to answer these questions.
- What is a creationist?
- What does it mean to be called a pseudoscientist?
- Why do some people say Bible-believers are anti-science?
- What does it mean to be a fundamentalist?
- What is a science-denier?
Bonus questions:
- Why do people call others unqualified?
- What does it mean to be dogmatic?
- What is a religious zealot?
- Why do some people call Bible-believers flat-earthers?
- What is projection in psychology?
