As important as it is to learn rules, concepts, laws, and principles, we eventually need to go beyond the law to grace. Beyond knowing about Jesus Christ, we need to know Him personally. We need a personal relationship. That means we need to hear directly from the Spirit of Christ. God speaks to everyone. We know that by experience, and the Bible tells us the same thing. Some people listen to Him. Some of those who listen actually yield to His Spirit of love, joy, and peace to the point the God can do His works through them. Here’s some Scripture to back this up:
- “Because a knowledge of God is revealed to them, for God has revealed it to them. For the secrets of God from the foundation of the world are appearing to His creatures through intelligence, even His power and His eternal Godhead, that they will be without a defense, Because they knew God, and they did not glorify Him as God, nor did they give Him thanks, so that they became destitute in their reasoning and became dull in their heart without understanding. And when they thought in themselves that they were wise, they became insane. Romans 1:19-22
- “The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, yet the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” John 1:9-12
- “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Father” Matthew 4:4
Ask God to answer these questions.
Rather than trusting the fallen human mind to try to answer important questions, ask God.
- How do you hear from the Spirit of Christ?
- Why is it important for you to go beyond just knowing about Jesus?
- What does it mean when you say God speaks to everyone?
- What does it mean for you to listen to God?
- How can you let God do His works through you?
Bonus questions:
- Romans 1:19-22 says, “knowledge of God is revealed to them, for God has revealed it to them.” It means the knowledge of God is revealed to those who say they don’t believe in God, so it says those people have no excuse. What does that tell you about those who say they believe God doesn’t exist?
- John 1:9-12 says some people refused to receive Jesus. How much does that affect you when you do receive Jesus?
- What does it mean for you to live by every word that comes from God?
Seeking God about Lies and Truth about Your Friends
AUDIO RECORDING FOR REFLECTION: |
- Pray for the Lord to protect you and keep you in His presence and His presence only.
- Direct your mind toward the Lord only.
- Ask God the two questions and take notes on what God says. “What lies to I believe about my friends?” “What is true about my friends?”
- Do not edit or change what God says even if you don’t understand it.
- Out loud, reject the lies.
- Out loud receive the truth.
- Transfer your notes to your journal without editing what God said to you.
Keep in mind that God doesn’t want you to ever disconnect from Him. He wants to flow through you constantly in knowledge, wisdom, and love.
Concept Map Exercise
Create a concept map suitable for this unit to visualize the relationships between entities. Entities could be things, persons, ideas, or concepts. They are nouns in language. Begin by writing the central concept or most important entity in the middle of the page and drawing a rectangle around each entity. Draw other entities around the central entities. When you think you have all the entities on the paper, draw lines between the entities that are related plus a verb (action word) that explains the relationship.
Let the Holy Spirit lead you in this. (Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.) Take what you learned, your notes or what you produced and videotape yourself. Become a kid influencer for Christ with your own social media platform by uploading your video as God leads. Learn to stand in God’s presence and hear His voice. Then teach others to do the same.
