The carnal human mind is corrupted and will try to edit what God gives you or may even put in comments that didn’t come from God. That’s one of the reasons it’s a great idea not to become dogmatic about anything. Let God constantly guide you and correct and complete your understanding of the Bible and everything else.
“For when I brought your fathers out of the land of Egypt, I did not merely command them about burnt offerings and sacrifices, but this is what I commanded them: Obey Me, and I will be your God, and you will be My people. You must walk in all the ways I have commanded you, so that it may go well with you. Yet they did not listen or incline their ear, but they followed the stubborn inclinations of their own evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.” Jeremiah 7:22-24
The original language of the Bible says you need to be diligent and careful in your seeking. In other words, you must ask your questions to Him and only Him, and you must believe He will answer you. It’s not hard. It’s simple. Just direct your mind toward God and don’t get distracted by comments from your carnal mind. Ask God to protect you from other voices, and tell Him you want to hear His voice and His voice alone. Jesus said that your heavenly Father won’t give you the wrong thing, but He is able to give you His Holy Spirit if you ask for it.
Ask God to answer these questions.
Rather than trusting the fallen human mind to try to answer important questions, ask God.
- What is your carnal mind?
- What can you do to make sure your carnal mind doesn’t deceive you?
- Why should you avoid being dogmatic about things?
- Why did the people in Jeremiah’s time go backward instead of forward?
- How can you make sure you only hear God’s voice?
Bonus questions:
- What does it look like if you’re diligent and careful in seeking God?
- What does it mean for you to receive the Holy Spirit?
- What’s the difference between receiving the Holy Spirit, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and being baptized with the Holy Spirit?
SEEKING GOD
audio recording for reflection: |
- Pray for the Lord to protect you and keep you in His presence and His presence only.
- Direct your mind toward the Lord only.
- Ask God what He want’s to talk about.
- You can ask God any questions. In all of this, be led by the Holy Spirit. God promises that He will answer you if you ask Him.
- Do not edit or change what God says even if you don’t understand it.
- Reject the lies and receive the truth.
- Take notes.
- Transfer your notes to your journal without editing what God said to you.
Keep in mind that God doesn’t want you to ever disconnect from Him. He wants to flow through you constantly in knowledge, wisdom, and love.
Fishbone (Cause and Effect) Diagram Exercise
Draw a cause and effect diagram that makes sense for this unit. You can read more about cause and effect diagrams in (Fishbone Diagram Info). This simple tool can help you understand how to make things work, why things aren’t working, or why things are happening in a certain way. Review the article and find the most important effect you want to look at and put that in the box on the left end of a line. From the center line, draw one branch for each cause. Think of the branches as streams feeding into the main river that leads to the effect. Let the Holy Spirit lead you in this. (Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.) Take what you learned, your notes or what you produced and videotape yourself. Become a kid influencer for Christ with your own social media platform by uploading your video as God leads.
