“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)
God speaks through Scripture.
“But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” (2 Corinthians 3:14-16)
The human mind tries to analyze Scripture, but here’s the answer:
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
Ask Him. He will tell you things you didn’t previously know.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” (Psalm 19:1-2)
“Because that which is known of God is revealed among them, for God revealed it to them, for the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world, by the things made being understood, are plainly seen, both His eternal power and Godhead—to their being inexcusable.” (Romans 1:19-20)
God speaks through His creation if you listen.
“For you are all able to prophesy one by one, so that all may learn, and all may be exhorted.” (1 Corinthians 14:31)
God speaks through prophecy in church services.
“flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father in the heavens.” (Matthew 16:17)
How did Peter know? It wasn’t the brilliance of Peter. A moment later, in Matthew 16:23, Satan spoke through Peter. If we whole-heartedly seek God, God will give us discernment to know the difference. That discernment will increase as we continue to listen to God’s voice and yield to His Spirit.
These are some of the ways God speaks, but God isn’t limited. Open your mind to God. Direct your thoughts toward Him and receiving from Him.
Ask God to answer these questions.
- Even today, religious people have the veil of the flesh. For you, how does turning to Christ remove the veil as you read Scripture?
- Why is your human mind insufficient for fully understanding Scripture or anything else?
- Jeremiah 33:3 encourages you to seek direct communication with God. How do you do this?
- Peter recognized Jesus as the Christ in Matthew 16:17 but was influenced by Satan in Matthew 16:23. What does this teach you about spiritual insight?
- How can you keep your mind open to God’s voice and cultivate a receptive heart toward His guidance?
Bonus questions:
- What does it mean that all Scripture is God-breathed?
- How does God speak through creation?
- You should ask God and He will tell you “great and unsearchable things” (Jeremiah 33:3). How has fear kept you from asking God?
- What does it mean that “all may prophesy” (1 Corinthians 14:31)?
- How can you open your minds to God and receive more from Him?
- What will happen when you come into God’s presence, listen to His voice, and yield to His Spirit continually?
SEEKING GOD
audio recording for reflection: |
- Pray for the Lord to protect you and keep you in His presence and His presence only.
- Direct your mind toward the Lord only.
- Ask God what He want’s to talk about.
- You can ask God any questions. In all of this, be led by the Holy Spirit. God promises that He will answer you if you ask Him.
- Do not edit or change what God says even if you don’t understand it.
- Reject the lies and receive the truth.
- Take notes.
- Transfer your notes to your journal without editing what God said to you.
Keep in mind that God doesn’t want you to ever disconnect from Him. He wants to flow through you constantly in knowledge, wisdom, and love.
Concept Map Exercise
Create a concept map suitable for this unit to visualize the relationships between entities. Entities could be things, persons, ideas, or concepts. They are nouns in language. Begin by writing the central concept or most important entity in the middle of the page and drawing a rectangle around each entity. Draw other entities around the central entities. When you think you have all the entities on the paper, draw lines between the entities that are related plus a verb (action word) that explains the relationship.
Let the Holy Spirit lead you in this. (Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.) Take what you learned, your notes or what you produced and videotape yourself. Become a kid influencer for Christ with your own social media platform by uploading your video as God leads.
