One step in God's process to transform you

Romans 14:23: “for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” And faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17), so true faith is the correct response to God’s leading. That means sin is anything done apart from God’s direction. And righteousness is allowing God to lead and do His works through you.

Many churches and schools focus on external behavior and traditions rather than teaching people to truly hear and follow God’s leading. But God is patient, and He is always working to bring His people into deeper truth.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

If we allow our sinful flesh to deceive us, we leave the Path (Jesus) of life. We choose the path of death. And yet, if we confess our sins, the Father is faithful and just to forgive us. He not only pardons us, but He also removes ALL unrighteousness from us. He picks us up and puts us back on the Path. He re-connects us to Christ, the only Source of love, wisdom, knowledge, goodness, and life. On that Path, we can continue our journey toward the ultimate completeness in Christ where Christ will be fully formed in us and the rebellious fleshly nature will be a thing of the past.

James 1:14-15 “But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”

God doesn’t tempt you. You are currently in a battle for your mind. Your spirit has already been joined to Christ’s Spirit if you’re born again. God wants to build Christ in your mind and dispense with the useless carnal mind. Satan has other desires. God will win.

John 8:36 “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

That freedom will be complete.

Romans 5:12 “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.”

Ephesians 2:3 “All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.”

Those verses describe our natural status. But Jesus died and rose to set us free from all of that. Though we are now incomplete, God will complete the work in us if we continue to listen to Him and yield to His grace.

Ask God to answer these questions.

  1. Sin is leaving the Path of life. What happens if you leave the Path of life? (The Path is Jesus.)
  2. How does God forgive you and remove unrighteousness from you?
  3. Why do you need to keep walking on the Path?
  4. What does it mean that Christ can be fully formed in you?
  5. What does it mean to you to be set free by Jesus?

Bonus questions:

  1. “The wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23” What does that  mean?
  2. What does it mean to confess your sins?
  3. What does it mean that God not only pardons you but also removes all unrighteousness from you?
  4. How does God build Christ in your minds, and how can you cooperate with this process?
  5. What is the ultimate goal of Christ being fully formed in you and your rebellious fleshly nature being a thing of the past?

SEEKING GOD

audio recording for reflection:

  1. Pray for the Lord to protect you and keep you in His presence and His presence only.
  2. Direct your mind toward the Lord only.
  3. Ask God what He want’s to talk about.
  4. You can ask God any questions. In all of this, be led by the Holy Spirit. God promises that He will answer you if you ask Him.
  5. Do not edit or change what God says even if you don’t understand it.
  6. Reject the lies and receive the truth.
  7. Take notes.
  8. Transfer your notes to your journal without editing what God said to you.

Keep in mind that God doesn’t want you to ever disconnect from Him. He wants to flow through you constantly in knowledge, wisdom, and love.

Search Engine Exercise

Type “what does the Bible say about sin” into a search engine and find websites like biblestudytools, sunshynegray, or openbible that list many Bible verses on the topic. Use the ones that take input from the users rather than those that are trying to cherry-pick Scripture to prove some point. As you go through the verses listed, you will find that some are on the topic and others don’t fit very well. This is a great place for discussion about which ones fit and why. Let the Holy Spirit lead you in this. (Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.) Take what you learned, your notes or what you produced and videotape yourself. Be a kid influencer for Christ with your own social media platform by uploading your video as God leads. Learn to stand in God’s presence and hear His voice. Then teach others to do the same.
