Christians are walking far below their inheritance.
“These signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.” (Luke 24:17-18)
Many Christians are seeking God and asking why we aren’t seeing this level of authority and power in the church. Some say this isn’t for us today, but this is twisting Scripture.
“And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:13)
There was a man who was working on an ambulance. He prayed for the patients on the ambulance for about nine months and not one person was healed. Then he discovered a secret. It seems every breakthrough with God starts with hearing God’s voice, and that’s what happened for this praying medic.
If we pray in Jesus’ name, we are signing His name to our prayer. If He isn’t praying the prayer through us, we are praying without authority. We have no authority. That’s why hearing God’s voice is the first step in prayer. He will tell us how to pray and what to do. Once He speaks, faith comes. Faith gives us authority for whatever God said. And faith gives us access to God’s grace. God’s grace is His power to do the work. Part of powerful prayer is releasing this power. Authoritative, powerful prayer follows the “by-grace-through-faith” pattern of the flow chart at the top of this page.
Much has been written about prayer from people who have broken through using prayer. God wants you to pray, and He wants you to pray effectively. He wants you to receive what you pray for. That’s never easy for anyone. Never give up.
Ask God to answer these questions.
- What does it mean that Christians are walking far below their inheritance?
- While some Christians are seeing many miracles, others are not. Why don’t some Christians see miracles?
- Does picking up snakes or drinking poison mean you should do dangerous things?
- How do you learn to know when God is really speaking to you when you pray?
- Why do you have to hear God’s voice to pray with authority?
Bonus questions:
- Can’t you just pray for anything?
- How do you pray “in Jesus’ name”?
- Why didn’t the man working on the ambulance see anyone healed at first?
- What does faith have to do with prayer and God’s grace?
- How can you “release God’s power” in your prayer?
- If prayer is so important, why is it sometimes hard to keep praying and not give up?
SEEKING GOD
audio recording for reflection: |
- Pray for the Lord to protect you and keep you in His presence and His presence only.
- Direct your mind toward the Lord only.
- Ask God what He want’s to talk about.
- You can ask God any questions. In all of this, be led by the Holy Spirit. God promises that He will answer you if you ask Him.
- Do not edit or change what God says even if you don’t understand it.
- Reject the lies and receive the truth.
- Take notes.
- Transfer your notes to your journal without editing what God said to you.
Keep in mind that God doesn’t want you to ever disconnect from Him. He wants to flow through you constantly in knowledge, wisdom, and love.
